Crosby, Stills & Nash – s/t (Atlantic 1969)

Crosby, Stills & Nash of course need no further introduction. These are simply legends in the music business, and this – their first album together – is an essential gem for not only every folk rock fan, but every fan of good music. Every song is a classic! My personal favourites are for that very reason hard to pick. But if pushed, I would say the epic opener ‘Suite: Judy Blue Eyes’, the wonderfully medieval-sounding ‘Guinevere’ and of course the most famous song of them all: ‘Wooden Ships’. The songwriting is flawless all the way, and the mood changes nicely between cheerful and deeply melancholic. Their trademark vocal harmonies are to die for, and they probably never sounded better than on this album. It’s not so much more to say really. For my money, this is easily one of the very best albums of the 60’s – regardless of genre.
