‘Pink Moon’ was Nick Drake’s last album, and certainly his most naked. You only hear his wonderful unique voice and his truly excellent acoustic guitar playing. Drake was a true virtuoso on the instrument, but nobody could describe him as a ‘show off’. The songwriting was all that mattered, and ‘Pink Moon’ probably features his most personal songwriting ever. It’s a very short album, clocking in at just over 30 minutes, but on the other hand: Not a single note is wasted. Every song is a dark gem that you’ll want to hear again and again. I find the album totally addictive, and not depressing – even though it’s certainly a dark affair. ‘Parasite’ is the darkest song of them all, and my personal favourite here. It’s not so much more to say about ‘Pink Moon’ really, other than the fact that this is a completely essential album!
